With the run up to Christmas on the way, we thought we’d put together a list of the ‘Top 5 Animated Short Films for the whole Family’ in order to help boost the festive feelings. Some are well known and others are there to break away from traditions and get you into something entirely new. Join us as we count-down the Top 5 Festive Animated Short Films (in the teams’ opinion).
5. Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas (1999)
This three-part movie features Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald Duck and even more of your favourite old-school Disney characters. If that’s not enough, there’s also a follow-up anthology Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas. No one does Christmas like Disney, and what a better way to start Christmas than to sit down under a blanket and experience this festive classic.
4. Scooby-Doo! Haunted Holidays (2012)
Everyone loves a bit of Scooby-Doo – whether it’s new or old, the Mystery Machine and The Gang are always the perfect fit to any holiday season. When an evil snowman attempts to shut down the toy store for Christmas, the Scooby gang investigates. Is something supernatural really going on? If so, these meddling kids will find out.
3. Robin, Robin (2021)
Robin, Robin is a short half-hour special from 2021. With a very “Hygge” feeling, you’ll feel right at home with the felted feel of this film’s stop-motion beauty. The story follows a bird raised by mice who begins to question where she belongs and sets off on a daring journey of self-discovery.
2. The Snowy Day (2016)
The Snowy Day is a 2016 Short Film based on the award-winning book by Ezra Jack Keats. It follows young boy Peter as he ventures on a magical, snowy walk to his Nana’s house to bring home their Christmas Eve dinner. The program won 2 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Music Direction and Composition & Outstanding Pre-School Children’s Animated Program.
1. How to Train Your Dragon: Homecoming (2019)
Animated by Dreamworks and continuing the story of Hiccup and his family, Homecoming is the perfect substitute for any How To Train Your Dragon fan looking to get into the Christmas (or in this case “Snoggletog”) Spirit. Hiccup and Toothless reunite to remind both their kinds of the inseparable bond between vikings and dragons.
